About the Author
My name is Erica L. Soerensen and I have recently started writing again. After a devastating experience of losing a nearly finished manuscript in my early 20s, I vowed never to write again. Even though I continually thought of magical stories, I didn’t write them down.
Instead, I became an avid reader and dove into being an English college professor.
In November of 2023, I became engaged to my person. This must have been the catalyst because a story idea popped into my head and wouldn’t go away. So, I started typing.
I haven’t stopped.
Writing has become my newest and most favorite passion. I’m a proud Multipotentialite who is passionate about many things, but writing brings me such joy.
In addition to working on my first novel, I have been writing for hours daily since May of 2024 on Medium. Due to Medium’s odd, unfair, and confusing policies, I was unceremoniously dropped from being paywalled. While I could write more there, I am uninterested in supporting a toxic company.
Many Medium users write on Substack. I had planned on pivoting anyway, so here I am!
Newsletter Breakdown
One thing I learned about my time on Medium was that I like to write about multiple topics. Therefore, I have created three separate newsletters:
Giggles & Scribbles: Personal stories/essays about my past and present. I will also write about writing, reading, and goal-setting tips. I am raw in my writing, so many times, you will laugh hard enough to fall out of your chair or pee a little in your pants.
Quirky Quickies: I have found a new love in the art of Drabble writing. 100 words. Only. So, I get to be creative and work on editing skills. Plus, they are great for getting those creative juices flowing. These little treats are bound to put a smile on your face!
Fabled Realities: Short stories that intertwine magic, fantasy, and/or dreams into real life. They are meant to get your own imagination up and running. I hope they will inspire you to dive into creativity.
I will publish two newsletters a week for each.
Giggles & Scribbles—Wednesdays and Saturdays
Quirky Quickies—Mondays and Thursdays
Fabled Realities—Tuesdays and Fridays
I love keeping to a schedule. It helps my wacky, continuously moving brain calm down! I am also an extremely committed, obsessive type, so I won’t deviate from this.
Subscriber Benefits
For now, the newsletter is 100% free. I want to grow organically here, sharing my voice. As I juggle regular writing, my career, and my family life if you want to support me and my writing endeavors, you still can. I will be using any funds earned toward self-publishing my first novel.
Reviews of My Writing
Here are just a few of my favorite comments from recent readers:
Heather Bradford stated, “This is SO heartwarming. It touched my mummy heart and I could so relate! I have a clip of my father saying he loves me and whenever I have my music on shuffle and it pops out his voice shocks me and then warms my heart. I'm glad you made the recording for your son. I know one day, when my dad is gone, I'll hear my clip of his voice and absolutely lose it!”
Trish Nonya mentioned, “Aww, this gave me all the warm fuzzies 🥰🥰🥰”
Eleanor Ahlstrand says, “Thank you for sharing this, Erica. You are so right, we hide something that if we didn't enjoy it, we wouldn't do it. I think sometimes we judge ourselves against best sellers. Those aren't the standards for most writers. I love writing and am proud to say so. Thanks for making that okay.”
Over-50 Empress relates, “I loved reading this! 🩷 My granddaughter is 3 and already - Miss Thang. 🙄🩷My daughter and her husband have their hands full!🤣🤣”
